Social Engineering and How to Avoid It on IMVU

To Prevent hacking. I think imvu needs a pc code for each avatar someone use from there computer. I think they need an"Away" password just in case someone decide to switch computers. So if someone decides to h4c|<, and they h4c|< someone else's "Away" code and there regular imvu password, I think imvu should run a scan to trace there IP address or IMVU should assign an indidvual code that identifies each computer, then send a message to the rightful owner of the avatar, as such "Are you aware so and so logged in as your name".. if they click no. i think imvu should immediately disable the h4c|<7r as they would already have the hackers IP address, until further notice.

It is always a two way function. I always recommend total anonymity on the internet. A good h4c|<7r is like a vampire, it needs to be invited in

There is a really good movie called Sneakers (Dan Akyroid, Robert Redford, and Sydney Poitier) that shows how social engineering can be used to the hackers advantage without giving up a lot of information to the target

There's tons of fake people. This post is great, they can be anything they want and pursued you to do things you would not normally do. People have sad stories love stories and can make you think you are the only one that can save them. There are lot's out there that will social engineer you into giving them credits, gifts, money, and anything else they can get out of you. Keep your eye open for people that seek lots of attention when they hardly know you. That would be the first sign in my eyes. I hardly trust anyone when it comes to giving things away anymore I have been burned far to many times for it. Very helpful post!

Great post. I believe you can also apply this to the real world too. There's a lot of nasty people out there, well, everywhere you go, you'll encounter them. It's good to learn about this stuff so you can be well-prepared and not fall into their tactics to take advantage of you

This is fascinating. If anyone is interested, I suggest reading "Influence" by Robert Cialdini and "The Social Animal" by Elliot Aronson. His book covers a lot of info on persuasion.
This can be used negatively but it can also be applied irl if, for example, you're in sales. I suppose it may seem dishonest to some but I see it as another tool in the marketing toolbox.

Just had a read of this.

I think ill likely pursue this a little more. The way the web is now I personally believe people are far too trusting of there information and online socialization and social engineering can also be applied to general case as explained. I'll have to purposely set a related goal this coming weekend at a social meetup and see how it pans out. I saw some posted books so ill have to look into those too and see what I can find online. Thanks for the read and sparking a new interest for me.
