If you are like me, then the IMVU client is always installing toolbars and changing your search engine and changing your homepage without your permission. Even if you tell IMVU not to during install, they still install a bunch of junk on your computer. This can be really annoying, but it can also be prevented.

If you use chrome, install the extension update notifier: https://chrome.google.com/webstore/deta ... pmkonpebjm

I've never had them install anything when I told it not to.

That is because you use Firefox ... which has built in protections against extension hijacking.

IE and Chrome are a little less fortunate.

I bet you still have trouble with IMVU changing your homepage though. Firefox on my computer is always getting its home page changed without my permission. If you do not have that problem though, I would love to know what you are doing to prevent it.

Nope, it's never changed my homepage or search provider. I uncheck everything before the installer finishes and it doesn't change anything. Just installs the client as if those options weren't there.

So do I, but it still changes my Firefox settings.

That is strange. I don't think any addons I have installed would prevent other programs from modifying Fx, they are all geared toward web sources.

After removing the extensions it would all so be a good Idea to open regedit and search for the extensions name and delete every key you find because even thow you removed the Hijack doesn't mean it won't return and take over your browser again.. There is a great small tool too help remove this crap that you can all so can use call DLL Hijacker auditor http://securityxploded.com/download-file.php?id=7777

A couple of days ago, the IMVU client is prompting me for a version update. I usually press "Update Later," and wait for a week, to make sure there are no significant complaints from the IMVU players who updated too soon. I usually use Chrome. I'll install the "extension update notifier." Thanks, Don Von.
