IMVU's product system calls event listeners "triggers". Trigger is just IMVU's word for an event listener. An event listener is a bit of code that watches for an action / event to occur, and then runs another piece of code. In most cases, it is listening for a word in chat or for someone to step on a node. The bit of code that it then runs is a list of animations, morphs, and or sounds.
People will often describe an object on IMVU as "trigger", Examples: Trigger Table, Trigger Avatar, Trigger Tail, Trigger Dick
... which simply means that the object contains event listeners, which run animations, morphs, and or sounds.
