Ranking algorithm of chatrooms is unfair

Does anybody know the criteria for chatrooms to be featured on the first page when opening the chatroom tab? How are certain rooms getting chosen and boosted when they barely have 5 stars?

That's a very good question. Unfortunately, I don't have a good answer other than wondering that myself. I have checked for rating, occupancy (full or fuller rooms on first pages), room size, alphabetical. Like a lot on IMVU it just doesn't seem to make any sense unless you are the guy who originally programmed it.

I'm not an expert on this matter, I do have a public room and it does decently at certain times of the day. I can't imagine star ratings being an important factor when the mobile population doesn't have access to it. It wouldn't make sense in my opinion for rooms rated well by PC users to be shown to mobile users. That's just my reasoning tho

Room star ratings were around a LOT longer than IMVU Mobile even exists. In my experience, IMVU doesn't always address 'old' code to match whatever new 'innovations' they decide to implement. I have been told by a fairly reliable source that's because the original programmer/s of that particular piece of code or feature of the platform no longer work/s for IMVU and nobody currently present wants to or can be assed to pick apart what was written. Like you, I'm not an expert on this but In My Humble Opinion IMVU Mobile broke a lot of original (IMVU Classic) features when it came around anyway so maybe, just maybe somebody had the unique thought to quit while they were ahead and try not to break anything else.

Just taking a guess I would think chatrooms to be featured would just post new rooms that were uploaded to the site would be listed 1st in its category and maybe by symbols, numbers and in alphabetical order if I'm understanding your question. VU also have favorite creators who sell a lot so they push them to the top a lot also.
