Thanks to the hard work of our mad scientists and supporting community, our site optimization has been completed with great success and minimal down time.
Tasks finished:
1) Database optimized
- our database has been reorganized to work more efficiently, no data has been lost nor removed
2) Topic / Thread Pages optimized
- the number of database queries ran every time someone looks at a topic or thread on our site has been reduced by 50%. You will still receive the same data when you view a thread on our forums, but now the pages will only take half as long to load
3) Instant Messaging optimized
- the instant messenger which can be seen in the bottom right hand corner of every page has been optimized. Previously, when someone joined our site the instant messenger would be online and refreshing every 10 seconds even though their friends list was empty and refreshing the messenger was pointless. Now, the messenger starts out as offline and does not start refreshing till you have made your first friend on our site by sending out a friend request and having that friend request accepted. In order to implement this new system, we had to set everyone's instant messengers offline. To set your messenger back online, click on your messenger and then click on the text "online". This will log you into our instant messenger and will leave you logged in till you decide to log out by clicking the "offline" text.
04) Server Upgraded
- thanks to all of the donations sent in by our wonderful members, we have been able to afford a server upgrade which has doubled our server resources and tripped the available resources not being used by the OS, thus allowing our server to support 3 times as many logged in users as it could before
5) Additional Domain Name Server Reslovers Added
- we have quadrupled our number of DNSresolvers, thus protecting us from DNS related attacks and increasing the speed at reach our server may communicate with multiple members at the same time
Total outcome: Our server's CPU usage has dropped from 100% to 35%, pages are loading instantly, and we are safer than ever.
