Saw I

The "teacher" in Saw, Jigsaw, is also a brutal serial killer who uses some drastic methods of education.

This movie comes complete with gore, scares, suspense and gruesomely great gadgets...and may help you think a bit more fondly of the nuns from your days in private school.

Release: 2004
Written and Directed by: James Wan

Starring:
Leigh Whannell as Adam
Cary Elwes as Dr. Lawrence Gordon
Danny Glover as Det. David Tapp
Ken Leung as Det. Steven Sing

Have you ever had one of those days when nothing seems to go right? You know what I mean. Traffic is a mess, work has got you down, you have an argument with your spouse, you wake up in a strange dark place with you leg shackled to a pipe. Needless to say, things have been better.

That is how Saw begins. Adam (Leigh Whannell) and Dr. Gordon (Cary Elwes) wake up on opposite ends of an old run down crapper. Both are shackled to a pipe imbedded in the wall. Between them, on the floor, is a body lying in a pool of blood with a gun in one hand and a mini tape recorder in the other. Adam finds an envelope in his pocket containing an audio tape. Dr. Gordon, on the other hand, finds an envelope with a tape, a key, and a bullet.

Dr. Gordon reaching for his life in SawAdam’s tape informs him that he just might be in the room that he is going to die in. Dr. Gordon’s tape informs him that he is to be the one to kill Adam. There is a catch though. He has to do it by 6:00 or his wife and daughter will be killed.

Who has orchestrated this dismal scenario? Through deductive reasoning, they figure out that they are the latest victims of the Jigsaw Killer. Technically though, Jigsaw can’t really be called a “killerâ€

Saw II

Saw II is the first sequel in the franchise, and continues the saga of top-notch horror villain Jigsaw.

Any one who has read my review of Saw knows that I really liked the movie but I gave a warning that, if not done correctly, sequels could easily screw up the franchise before it got started. I was so grateful to see that, so far, my fears can be put to rest. Saw II is a perfect follow up to the original.

Our journey begins with the awakening of a man who finds himself locked into a “death maskâ€

Saw III

Saw III has the largest budget of any in the series by far (at an estimated $12.5 Mil). This means more gross-out and more yell-out-loud, but thankfully the look and feel of the original remains.

Once in a blue moon a highly original horror movie, well done with minimum budget takes the world by storm to become a smashing success. Sometimes the level of demand for more warrants sequels, often with more money to spend. The Blair Witch Project is a stunning example of how this can go terribly wrong as the sequels are so terrible that they actually detract from the original’s good name – and the early sequels to The Texas Chainsaw Massacre didn’t fare much better. George A. Romero, on the other hand, showed Horror Freaks that a continuation of an excellent theme, in the right hands, can continue the franchise and become a series of classics.

Saw III - chained through skin

The Saw franchise can, with the release of Saw III, join the latter as a successful multi-episode franchise that didn’t lose its way as the money poured in.

Saw III begins in now-familiar style, as an unknown stranger awakens in a dark and dirty room chained to a post, or wearing a contraption of some sort, or in another deadly predicament. Through a series of flashes we know that Jigsaw is up to his old tricks again.

Saw III - the head exploder

This time, however, there is something wrong. The scenes of carnage do not follow the same pattern of previous Jigsaw death scenes, because the police notice that whether the victim passes the test or not there is still no means of escape…they were still going to die. Is there actually a copy-cat of Jigsaw lurking around and doing what Jigsaw himself finds reprehensible: Committing murder?

Saw III face your fears Jeff...

While all this is going on there is another subplot – Jigsaw is finally succumbing to his brain tumor and is near death. His trusty sidekick Amanda kidnaps the beautiful Lynn, an emergency trauma physician, to keep Jigsaw alive through the completion of one final test being performed on Jeff. Jeff’s test is on video and being watched as he completes one grueling life-choice after another, and Jigsaw’s heart must not stop until Jeff is finished. To make things interesting Lynn is fitted with a device that is tied to Jigsaw’s heart rate monitor that will literally blow her head off if the monitor displays a flat-line.

Saw III - In the freezer

Saw III contains the ideal elements of a classic horror franchise. The villain, in Jigsaw, is brilliant and formidable. The characters are developed well and provide excellent context for the “testsâ€

Yeah..What can I tell about Saw.
It's frikking awesome watching people die in such crazy and psychopathic ways, the idea of being there yourself makes you have a funny feelinng in the stomach. Jigsaw is a genius, he sees himself as not a killer, but in a indirect way he is. He cuts out puzzles of the people who did not pass his heavy to win games. And just like these people the film series are puzzles. You have 1000 of questions wich won't all get answered. That puppet is a little toy for kids, but it scares you. I couldn't sleep next to that puppet. LOL
But at the end...every motherfucker in that motherfucking movie is motherfucking dead, besides the officer and Jigsaws Ex.

I was kinda sad at the end of the sixth film, cause I knew it was the ''happy'' end.

BTW: Well done Kristina with the topic.
