SELECTING YOUR MESH TO DO

1. Fine a Derivable that you wish to recolor. I work mainly on htose that are the orginal meshes with no color added as well as they include texture/maps (For this tutorial I have selected http://www.imvu.com/shop/product.php?products_id=41206439

2. On this page at the bottom you will see she places in a link to be able to download her textures/maps

3. Click on the link download her zipfile

4. I use WinRar so you will locate the zip and extract it to a dedicated folder. (I named mine "Gown 31")

5. Close it

4. What we are working on recoloring is the files called "overlays"

5. As you can see in the above Picture I have highlighted in blue the first file we are gonna work on ..Select it as well

6. This will open in your work space and you will now see this:

7. On the right hand side in your tools you will select the Path tool. As shown highlighted in the next picture:

8. Once you have selected the Path tool go to your board and click on a spot on the rim of the Overlay. As shown Below:

Image

9. This will put a small square at your starting place. (see highlighted area in above picture)

10. Now you will utilize this tool to trace your Overlay---to do so simply click along it close or far doesn't matter just as long as you fully trace the outline of your overlay. If you make a mistake simple click on your CNTRL button and Z button at the same time to erase the last point. then continue on.

11. do this all the way around till you come back to your orginating box. Your Finished part should look like This: (Highlighted)

Image

12. Once finished right click inside what you just traced this will bring up a box

13. Click on the "Select" which brings up a side box then Click on "From Path"

14. What this does is make your trace now a solid line.

15. Next you are going to open a new layer

16. look at the layers/brushes box on the right hand side (See Below)

Image

17. As seen in the pic click on the little box that is highlighted to make a new layer

18. This will Bing up a small window (seen Below) Make sure that it is set to Transperency

Image

19. Click Ok

20. Your Layers/Brushes Box will now look like This:

21. We are ready to add color now

22. Go back to the left side to your Toolbox and select the Paintbrush (seen Below)

Image

23. Now select the color you would like to Use.

24. Right below where you selected your paintbrush you will see two boxes one overlaying the other the top one should be balck the bottom white these are your default colors.

25. Click on the Black color or the top box depending on what color you have set as your default. This will open up another Box (shown below)

Image

26. Select what ever color you are wanting to do. (I have chosen the Dark Blue as My finished item will have a Pastel Blue look.)

27. Click Ok

28. Make sure that in your Layers.brush Box that the new layer you created is highlighted as this is where you are working.

29. place your cursor on the canvas and you will see it turns to a paint brush

30. Holding your Left Mouse button down fill in all the area that you have outlined. Don't worry about going out of the lines as it will not pick the color up. Finished should look like Below: (As you can see my outline was not perfect and left some grey areas you don't want to do this so make sure your trace is done perfect. As this will make grey lines in your Item once created.)

Image

31. Once you are done filling in the color Right Click on your Colored Item

32. Click on "Select" then choose "NONE"

33. This takes away your trace lines

34. Go back to your Layers/Brushes panel on the right and where you see a drop down arrow (as seen below) Click on that which brings up the drop box go down and select "Overlay"

Image

35. Your Product will now look like this:

Image

36. Go to File ----

37. Select "Export AS"

38. Leave the orginal files name there but add in whatever color you just did. Make sure it is .jpg

30. Click on Export

31. Opens a new Box Click on Export again

32. That file is now saved in the Folder with the orginal.

33. For all other clothing Overlays you just rinse and repeat as well as for each different color make sure that you add into your Savefile name the color you used so you are not replacing the orginal one.

34. Your DONE

35. Now open up Create in Client locate the page that your deviation is on click on Deviate from and once it is open you just have to read what the description is under the mesh textures and match them up with the new colors you have done and update and etc...

36. Finished Product ready to send to catty

Hope this helps those that want to be able to recolor with the basic colors offered in gimp
