I have decided to create a new topic dedicated solely to text effects. I am going to update this topic and add notes as I see fit, I will create a different topic about how to install certain things such as scripts and plugins.

Notes = •

Animated Fire Text

Downloading and installing this script will be needed

1) Open GIMP.

2) Go to File>New and set the size to whatever you wish, it doesn't matter, click "OK".

3) Now, go to Filters>Animation>Animated Fire...

4) You can set the size of your fire layer, you should set it in accordance with the size you want your text to be. The higher the number of frames, the slower the fire effect, but also the smoother the animation. Choose 20 or 25 for the number of frames if you want just a fast fire effect.
The script may go beyond your screen and make you unable to click "OK". In that case, simply set everything to what you wish, then click on "X" to close the window, after that you should just re-open the script and push "Enter", you will have created the text effect with the settings you wished for.

5) In the fire window, go to Layer>New Layer...
Make sure the layer is transparent.

6) Make your newly created layer active and grab your text tool.
Which font you choose is essential as not everything looks good on fire. You could try the Dimitri font for starters. It doesn't look good at all, or that is just me.

7) Write a text and merge your text layer down with the layer you previously created.

8) In the layers' tab, right click on the layer you have just merged and select "Alpha to Selection".

9) Go to Select>Invert.

10) You no longer need your text layer, simply delete it.

11) This step is going to be a little tiring if you chose to add a great number of frames. Left click on each flaming layer and push your "Delete" key, it deletes only the selection which has been inverted, not the actual layers.

12) I recommend using your cropping tool to adjust your animation to an actual proper size. Go to Filters>Animation>Playback... to see the result.

13) Do not forget to do the following: Filters>Animation>Optimise (for GIF). This will reduce the picture's size

14) Now, all you have to do is save the picture as a GIF file and you are done.

Graffiti Text (simple version)

Downloading and installing the Urban Designs Vectors Brushes and Amsterdam Graffiti font will be needed.

1) Open GIMP.

2) Go to File>New and set the size to 640*480
This is what I call a "sample", which means you can use any size you wish to if you do this all over again.

3) Left click on your "Text Tool", select the font you previously downloaded. Set the text size 205 and write what you want.

4) Now, right click on your text layer and select "Alpha to Selection". Select your "Blend Tool" and choose any two colours you want. (Foreground colour and background colour)
The HTML notations of the colours I chose are "008ed7" and "0000ff". Gradient setting "FT to BG (RGB)".

5) Use your "Blend Tool" on the text layer. Delete the unnecessary white layer below. Create a new transparent layer and make sure it is under the text layer. Go to Select>Grow, set the amount to 4. Set the FG colour to white, then right click on your selection and select edit>"Fill with FG Colour".
This is just your outline, you can choose colours other than white.

6) Merge down your current layers and go to Select>None. Select your "Dodge/Burn Tool", choose any brush you want and set the tool type to "Burn". Now, set your only layer to "Alpha to Selection" again and start clicking randomly on the image you have.
Splatter brushes are recommended for this part. The more times you click while in "Burn" mode the darker the parts that the brush touched get.

7.1) Go to Select>None. Create a new transparent layer, move it below your text layer and set it as active. Choose your "Paintbrush Tool" and click on one of the vector brushes you previously downloaded and think would look good. Use that brush anywhere on your active layer. Now merge all layers.

7.2) (Optional - Not included in the video) Duplicate your current layer three times. Go to your bottom layer and click on "Alp to Selection". Fill the selection with a shade of grey, go to your second layer and fill the selection with a light shade of a colour you want, go to the third layer and fill the selection with a darker shade of the colour you want. Now, go back to your bottom layer and
go to Filters>Blur>Gaussian Blur... and set both the horizontal and vertical blur radius to 15.00. Go to the second layer and repeat but with a radius of 20.00, the same for the third with a radius of 25.00.

The result should be close to this

I am looking forward to writing them.
By the way, Don, I would like to request something if it is possible. Could you please add a new forum style that can be chosen in the settings? The contrast of white letters and black background still makes it hard for me to read and concentrate.
