http://www.imvu.com/shop/product.php?products_id=20689242How is this done? That no matter the material used it still has dimension and depth?Ive creating in max using shell & extrude.Yet if opacity doesnt reach outer edges it floats.

I'm no expert on the subject but here's a picture of the original mesh in 3ds Max, maybe that will help.

I couldn't get the perspective view to behave, the mesh loads in far from the camera and moving it breaks the other viewports. Had trouble with it in both 3ds Max and Sketchup. Maybe it got messed up when I converted the xmf from IMVU to a 3ds file.

I bet
@axiom
knows more about this though, she's really good with 3ds Max and has done some pretty amazing things with it.

Would be neat to figure out how it was done.

Thanks DM, ill test out a curvature if that does the trick and gives that dimension. i had taken a plane and extruded creating the raised look. Did notice the original had a very high Poly & vert count too which i try to avoid. I do like that idea though that no matter the material & opacity used gives the look of a solid object.

I noticed that too. When I opened it up in Sketchup and told it to explode (which basically means ungroup all the faces and edges) it froze for about 5mins and then finally crashed, lol. When it comes to IMVU, I do my best to make clean meshes so no extra polys are left over but I also go for a little bit higher poly count in some of my work simply because I like the increased level of detail it gives and most of my stuff is for myself anyway. Combine that with extra graphics settings applied by the GPU and you can make IMVU look so much better.

I like that idea too, it's nice to see some innovation on IMVU and people putting effort into their creations again.

1. Creates a cross with a spline http://gyazo.com/3f4ac3b8ea0d531d964590d91d3cbba8

2. In rendering click on Enable in viewport, then rectangular and adjust size there http://gyazo.com/cea89d9a173a8c86b150b9f266ff0fe0

3. Convert in editable poly

4. Select vertex and use slice 2 time http://gyazo.com/6e711ce61b5c50969e1026b62f5af417

5. Select element and select two inner sides as you see in the pic, then use bridge http://gyazo.com/520024d689a637300563afc248c0e901

6. Select other 4 inner sides and use bridge http://gyazo.com/da2b2b47da52d48bbb4c11ed11d3ce4d

7. Done! http://gyazo.com/956c33af83804d52a6836c899b3c1c7b

The cross is part of the texture: http://s1099.photobucket.com/user/Epic3 ... P.jpg.html

She wants to know how to make a curved mesh that keeps the curve no matter what shape you put on the texture. Thanks for showing us how to make a mesh though, that'll help learning 3ds Max.

Original mesh is a square. http://prntscr.com/6lt4kh

Uses materials and opacity for shapes. http://prntscr.com/6lt46h

I would like the option of using any subject i use and have that look. This way no matter what material used it has a raised object effect.

Hmm... let me get a look on IMVU, I don't understand which trick he used. Sorry but I did understand you need to make that cross, I just quickly read your post

Awww It's just a simple cube with many polygons curved on the head

Do you need to tutor? just you need to use a cube with many polygons, not so many ofc, then use 4x4x4 to curve it. Is important you make a good map with UVW Map or better Unvwrap UVW

Tried to take a shot at my attempt http://prntscr.com/6ltem9
http://prntscr.com/6ltdrbIt floats once opacity used. It's as if imagining a solid material and with any cut there is still a side.

You're making good progress. At this rate I am sure you'll be able to figure it out in no time.
